The climate in our region
The northern part of Burgenland, especially the area around Seewinkel,
differs climatically from the rest of Austria.
Little rainfall (reaching levels as low as 600 mm and less) and an annual average of 61 summer days with over 25°C make the region ideal for winegrowing.
The Neusiedlersee, which is a big lake in our vicinity, adds positively to
the warm climate as well by nightly releasing the stored warmth and condensation and consequently adding to the period of growth for wine.
Frost in the spring is as rare as high temperatures in the summer and the
late summer lasts a lot longer than it does in the rest of Austria.
Facts about soil
In Gols there are 3 different types of soil:
- Soil from the Parndorferplatte: cool, lime-free gravel (Goldberg, Zwickelacker, Herrschaftswald...)
- The sloping part of the Parndorferplatte: deep, warm, loess-soil that is rich in lime (Ungerberg, Altenberg, Spiegel, Salzberg, Gabarinza)
- The plane next to the lake: permeable black soil on low terraces: Heideboden
