• History Select Gols

Gols has been a winegrowing area since the 7th century. And approximately one thousand years later the name Preisinger first appeared in the region.

At this point no-one could have anticipated the success-story that followed because back then wine only played a small role in the agricultural endeavours of the Preisinger family. The first written records date back to the year 1851.

A century later Georg Preisinger senior abandoned mixed farming in order to concentrate on winemaking. He was one of the first winemakers in Gols to use the 0.7 l bottle – which is now the standard.

Ups and Downs

With the arrival of tractors the mechanical cultivation of vineyards became possible. The downside was that because the machines couldn’t reach low growing vines like the Blaufränkisch, they no longer were cultivated and thus disappeared altogether.

It was only in 2002 that the 5th generation winemaker Georg Preisinger brought the Blaufränkisch back to the Ungerberg. A feat for which he has been well prepared by his extensive studies at leading universities in Austria, the USA, South Africa and Germany.
